Virtual Me

Amid all the noise of our busy lives, we tend to disconnect from our inner nature and exhaust our energy to achieve certain standards. In other words we want to become part of the all and not outcasts. The virtual world offers us a quick and easy solution to our physical solitude , a whole new world with boundless possibilities.
The Internet is becoming a major part of our daily life, was it education, career or merely entertainment. Our virtual identity is gaining more popularity than our physical one,we socialize and exchange all kinds of humane feelings online. It has become another reality, rather a reality that can be twisted to look and feel better. We have created the probability of being there but not being there. For instance, facebook.com has become a popular website visited by millions
everyday in Lebanon, through facebook we can share Our thoughts, emotions and image with millions of people we don’t have to know, only to saturate our sense of existence. In all cases, we could be modifying facts, manipulating imagery or faking emotion.
Nevertheless, we are still hanging to our reality by a thin thread of physicality; we need to satisfy our hunger, thirst and sexual desires.we are on the verge of creating a virtual world that doesn't need to take up any of the limited space we have left in the world, a world where we can build our own castles on our own islands in minutes.A world where we can be Gods! As little as that world would take up physical space it would sweep our minds off with the wonders it can present to us.
In one way or another, we are attracted to this postmodern lifestyle, and every thing is set to be user friendly for us to adapt easily to the new trends of the digital trend advancement.

As I said in class when you first proposed the subject, I think your topic is very interesting and worthy of investigation.

What I want you to do in your proposal though is to outline a certain framework, a premise. Yes, 'our virtual identity is gaining more popularity...', but where is your specific interest? Of course I am not suggesting that you take a side with or against this phenomenon, but actually to pose certain questions regarding its reasons, results, or recurring manifestations.

You can investigate how this is affecting our social conduct, or research what are the particular practices that take place, or who are the people who most use such programs. I would definitely advise you to work on users from the region which will possibly allow you to create links with practices that happen outside of the virtual world.

What about your bibliography? Once you narrow down your proposal, you will be able to define what books you need to read. It could be about the self-image, virtual reality, virtual communities, etc.

I think that this topic is really interesting but the fact that your approach towards this subject matter is more of a promotion to this virtual world and referring to it as "a quick and easy solution to our physical solitude". This might be very true and could be the main purpose of its design or its reason. But what would be challenging is for us to think about the effect it has on us , and like mentioned once in class that this creation of the virtual world i.e facebook is basically u sitting down on a chair nearly motionless or in a very stable state of ur physicality and thus it keeps u in such a position for hours and hours without even connecting to the world around you.

We become physically and mentally attach to it, to the extent that even when we r socializing without this element of connection, we tend to behave or socialize the way we did on facebook so that we wont alter or change this image that we have created for ourself.
